This particular photo was taken in the medieval fortified town of Montreuil France from the ramparts that surround the town. One of the interesting aspects of the town of Montreuil was that it was the setting for much of the early part of Victor Hugo's novel Les Misérables. Additionally, Montreuil was the headquarters of the British Army in France during the First World War. General Haig was quartered in a nearby château.
