I know that for those who do not regularly work with digital graphics files, that image sizes can be confusing.

As I now offer digital downloads as a delivery option for photographs, I thought this article from wikipedia would be of help in explaining screen sizes and thier releationship. Link to Article.

Some examples of image sizes to give people an idea of how big a particular image in pixels are:

The image in this article = 400 x 320.

Images on my website (View your Photos) = 400 x 265

Ipad = 1024 x 1024

Average Laptop Monitor = 1024x768

Average Desktop Monitor = 1024 x 768 or 1280x1024

720 HDTV = 1280 x 720

1080 HDTV = 1920 x 1080

For prints, you typically mutiply the photo demensions by the print resolution to get the pixel sizes needed to print the image properly. Typically, most printers print at 300dpi or 300ppi (pixels per inch).

For an 8x10 Print you would calculate your minimum size by multiplying 8 x 300 = 2400 and 10 x 300 = 3000 resulting in an image size of 2400x3000.

Popular Print Sizes:

4x6 = 1200x1800

5x7 = 1500x2100

8x10 = 2400x3000

11x14 = 3300x4200
